About the instructor

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Kate got her start in the aviation industry in 2007 when she began flight training as part of a program at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. There she achieved her commercial pilot’s license and a bachelor of business administration. Upon graduating, she moved to BC “for 6 months” to complete further training to become a flight instructor. 6 years later, Kate is still living in the Lower Mainland, teaching people to fly both manned and unmanned aircraft.

With a few years of unmanned experience and having taught over 500 drone pilots already, Kate is excited to share the knowledge she's gained with you!

Kate’s passion for teaching comes naturally as the daughter of a University professor and dean. Her own thirst for knowledge fuels this drive because she believes that if you can’t explain it simply, you don’t know it well enough.

To gain life-long certification as a radio operator in the aeronautical service, one must pass the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (formerly Industry Canada) exam.  While the exam needs to be written in person, the knowledge requirements to pass that exam can be delivered online!

While this certification isn't required to hold an SFOC, it demonstrates a level of professionalism to both NavCanada and Transport Canada and may be required to operate in certain classes of airspace.

If you're in the Vancouver area, send an email to to schedule your exam at one of our offices in the lower mainland.

This course is included in Commercial UAS Ground School.
